Joining the Global Celebration on International Women’s Day

The annual celebration of the cultural, historical, political, and other significant contributions and achievements of women is observed on March 8 as part of International Women’s Day.

This year’s campaign theme is ‘Choose to Challenge’ in putting the world on alert in promoting anti-bias and inequality among gender and putting emphasis on the collective inclusivity around the globe. The observance also spotlights opposing gender inequality as numerous companies and organizations come together to hold fundraising campaigns and other events to show support. Last year’s campaign called for, ‘An equal world is an enabled world’.

The United Nations first recognized the observance in 1975. Additionally, the holiday is observed in some countries in conjunction with Mother’s Day as well.

How to Observe International Women’s Day

  1. Take part in the ‘#ChoosetoChallenge’ social media campaign and post a picture raising your hand to show you are committed to global gender equality. You can also use: #IWD2021.
  2. You can donate to female-focused charities which are helping make a difference in women’s lives, daily. In fact, 100% of donations are contributed. Find more information to donate HERE.
  3. Show your appreciation, especially for our many valued healthcare professionals, by sending flowers, ‘thank-you’ cards, baked goods, or other forms of gratitude.
