The DAISY Award is a recognition program created to celebrate and reward “Extraordinary Nurses.” DAISY Award nominees are recognized at a public ceremony and receive a certificate, a daisy flower, and a cinnamon roll. The winner receives a DAISY award pin, a place on the DAISY website, and “A Healer’s Touch” sculpture – a unique hand-carved stone from Zimbabwe.
“Knowing that I’ve had a positive impact and made a difference in the lives of my patients and their families and knowing that my colleagues appreciate my contributions are the biggest reward,” said Hamdani.
Originally from the Philippines, Farnaiza has no family in South Florida, but she visits relatives in California and Las Vegas. When she’s not working, Farnaiza loves to travel, shop, and pamper herself. She has already ventured to Orlando, Las Vegas, Texas, and Southern California.

Since 1999, The Daisy Foundation has honored nurses like Farnaiza, who provide above-and-beyond compassionate care to patients and their families. Each month or quarter, the award is given to a deserving nurse based on criteria meeting a hospital’s mission and values. Patients, family members, visitors, and colleagues are all eligible to nominate a nurse for the award. Nearly 3,400 healthcare facilities and nursing colleges participate in the program.
