“What I love most about my job is knowing that I’m walking in my purpose. Every shift, every patient, every challenge is an opportunity to serve, not just with my hands, but with my heart.”
Shammy Agade is making a difference in people’s lives. As a registered nurse in the medical/surgical orthopedic unit at her Missouri hospital, she sees pain, loss, and struggle every day. Her shifts can be long and physically and mentally exhausting. Still, Shammy stays grounded by her faith, her patients’ smiles, and her purpose: to bring light, healing, and compassion to those who need it most.
Pursuing a Dream

Originally from Kenya, Shammy grew up with limited access to healthcare and witnessed firsthand how a single act of kindness or care could bring relief and hope to someone in need. She wanted to be that person delivering healing and comfort to others, so she pursued a career in nursing.
Now, with 12 years of professional experience, Shammy is making a difference for patients here in the United States. “I moved to the U.S. in April 2024 to step out of my comfort zone and chase bigger dreams. I wanted to turn challenges into opportunities,” said Shammy. And that’s exactly what she’s doing with the help of MedPro International: taking a bold step toward a better future for herself and her family.
Shammy doesn’t downplay the difficulties of moving to a new country and starting over. From navigating paperwork and passing exams to securing housing and adapting to a new culture, the process of moving abroad can feel overwhelming. But she says the struggles are worth the reward. With MedPro International’s assistance, Shammy and her family obtained their Green Cards, and her husband, a former clinical officer in Kenya, now works as a direct support professional at a special needs facility while taking nursing courses at a community college. She encourages other international nurses dreaming of working abroad not to give up. The process can feel long, confusing, and even impossible at times, but she reasoned that every delay gives you more time to prepare. She encouraged others to stay connected to their “why” for pursuing a U.S. nursing career. “One day you’ll look back and realize – it was all part of God’s plan.” “For I know the plans I have for you……” – Jeremiah 29:11
Shammy also credits MedProU’s orientation program and her Employment Relations Manager, Theresa Stanish, who provided her with everyday guidance and encouragement. “Her kindness and professionalism truly make a difference. She made the transition smoother than I ever imagined it could be.”
Community and Inspiration

Shammy has already achieved one of her dreams, working as a nurse in the United States, but her aspirations reach even further. She recently completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and plans to specialize in maternal health, a field that allows her to serve women and families with compassion and purpose.
“Through continuous learning, mentorship, and faith, I hope to one day contribute to programs that improve maternal outcomes both locally and globally,” Shammy shared. “My long-term vision is not only to grow as a maternal health nurse but also to mentor and inspire others, particularly women from underserved communities, to pursue healthcare careers and advocate for better maternal outcomes around the world.”
Outside of work, Shammy focuses on balance and self-care, whether through simple beauty routines or braiding hair, unwinding over a good meal, or finding peace in music and nature.
This year, the family enjoyed a summer getaway to Chicago, celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in Branson, Missouri, attended her BSN graduation in Phoenix, Arizona, and visited the Amish community in Columbia, Missouri, where they often buy fresh, organic produce and poultry.
Despite all the changes that come with living and working abroad, Shammy remains deeply connected to her roots. She keeps her culture alive at home by cooking favorite Kenyan dishes, listening to music from back home, celebrating traditional holidays, staying in touch with friends and family, and speaking her native language whenever she can.
Working Toward the Future
Shammy’s story is one of perseverance and purpose, but she’s quick to point out that no one succeeds alone. She encourages other healthcare professionals to seek out strong support systems, mentors, or colleagues.
Her advice to others is simple but powerful: “Keep your purpose and passion for healthcare at the center of your journey. They will carry you through challenges and inspire others along the way.” Shammy added, “Thank you, MedPro International, for making this dream come true.”
