GUEST POST: Jhon Christian Capioso tells his story as a medical technologist from Iloilo, Philippines, who traveled to start his new journey in the United States.
Ever since I was in college, it has been my dream to work in the United States. So, when an opportunity presented itself, I immediately embraced it. When MedPro International came to my hometown of Iloilo for an on-site recruitment event, I did not hesitate to take the opportunity. I was eager to become part of the team because I believed that, through MedPro, I could take a significant step toward achieving my American dream.
We were warmly welcomed during their on-site recruitment, and a few days later, I received an email regarding my application. I was officially accepted into the program. From that point forward, I made sure to comply with all the requirements they asked of me. I understood that each requirement was necessary to ensure that I could legally work in the United States.
I had hoped that 2024 would be the year I would begin my American dream. However, there were unexpected delays in my journey due to medical examinations and visa retrogression. For a while, I felt disappointed, but deep inside, I remained hopeful. I continued to pray and worked even harder toward my goal of eventually working in the United States as a medical technologist.
Through perseverance, faith, and a positive mindset, I continued working toward my dream. Finally, in November 2025, I arrived in the United States and began my MedPro orientation in Florida. 
I soon realized that pursuing a dream is not easy, and living that dream comes with its own set of challenges. My first challenge was the language. Although I had learned English in school, communicating in English every day felt very different. Listening to and speaking the language in real-life situations required adjustment and practice.
The second challenge was the weather. I arrived during the fall, and I was not accustomed to cold weather. It became even colder when I moved to my assigned facility.
The third challenge was budgeting. I had to learn how to manage my income wisely—to pay my bills, purchase the things I needed and wanted, and, most importantly, set aside savings.
The fourth challenge was time management. Life is not only about work. I also need to make time to stay connected with my loved ones and friends, prepare my meals for work, exercise, and simply rest and relax. Learning how to balance all these responsibilities has been an important part of my journey.
Before leaving the Philippines, I had always imagined that I would be working in California. However, when I arrived in Florida, everything changed. The MedPro team worked quickly to find me a new facility. Ironically, at that time, I was the only one in our group without an assigned facility, and I was also the last person to be called during our graduation. Despite this, I became the first among our group to leave Florida and travel to my assigned facility.
I am now content with my life here in Starkville, Mississippi. At first, I thought I was the only Filipino in the area. However, one Sunday morning at church, I met a Filipino family, and that became the beginning of my journey toward finding a community here.
I am grateful for the Filipino community I have found because every new person I meet brings new opportunities to visit new places, experience new things, and create meaningful memories. I came to this country on my own, without any relatives living nearby, so having a community has made this journey more meaningful and comforting.
I believe that everything happens for a reason, and I know that I still have so much to learn as I continue my journey toward achieving my American dream. I am sincerely grateful to the MedPro team for assisting me every step of the way and for regularly checking on me to make sure that I am doing well.
To those who are still waiting for their opportunity to finally work here in the United States, I want to say: do not give up on your dream. Continue to believe in it, remain patient, and keep moving forward. Enjoy and appreciate the moments you have while you are still in your home country because living in a different country is a completely new experience. There will be challenges, but there will also be countless opportunities to learn, grow, and create a better future.
Everything happens in God’s perfect timing.
