A recent Gallup poll confirmed what many MedPro International Explorers already know: nurses are the most trusted professionals in the United States. Nearly 76% of respondents rated nurses as highly honest and ethical, making them the most trusted of the 23 professions listed in the annual review.

Gallup conducted its survey December 2-18, 2024, and asked respondents to rank professions as “High/Very high,” “Average,” or “Low/Very low.” The top five ranked professions in order were Nurses (76%), Grade-school teachers (61%), Military officers (59%), Pharmacists (57%), and Medical doctors (53%).
TV reporters (13%), Members of Congress (8%), and Lobbyists (4%) rated at the bottom with a “Majority negative” score.
America’s nurses have held the top spot nearly every year for the last 23 years since Gallup added the profession to the annual survey in 1999. The one omission was in 2001 when firefighters got a 90% trust rating in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. While nurses have maintained the public’s trust, faith in medical doctors has dropped 14 percentage points since 2021. Doctors, who reached a high of 77% in 2020, now rate at 53%—their lowest since the mid-1990s.
MedPro International Explorers play a key role in upholding the high regard nurses continue to earn. As they launch their U.S. healthcare careers in cities nationwide, these dedicated professionals are making a lasting impact—both in their facilities and communities.
In just the past year, several Explorers have been recognized for their outstanding achievements, further strengthening the goodwill and trust Americans have in nurses.
Leading with Excellence and Compassion
Since Gallup began measuring public trust in professions in 1976, nurses have consistently ranked among the most respected. Over the years, the list of professions has evolved, but one thing remains constant—nurses continue to lead with excellence and compassion.
