National Safety Month: Raising Awareness and Saving Lives

Every June, organizations across the United States recognize National Safety Month, a nationwide observance dedicated to promoting safety, preventing injuries, and encouraging individuals to take steps that protect themselves and those around them.

Established by the National Safety Council, National Safety Month serves as a reminder that safety is not limited to the workplace. It extends to our homes, communities, roads, and everyday lives. The goal is to increase awareness about common risks and empower people with the knowledge needed to prevent accidents and respond effectively during emergencies.

Throughout the month, different safety topics are highlighted to encourage education and preparedness.

CPR and AED Awareness Week

One of the most recognized observances during National Safety Month is CPR and AED Awareness Week from June 1-7, 2026. This week focuses on the importance of learning life-saving skills that can make a critical difference during a cardiac emergency.

CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, helps maintain blood flow when a person’s heart stops beating, while an AED, or automated external defibrillator, can help restore a normal heart rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest.

The purpose of this awareness week is to encourage more individuals to learn these valuable skills and understand how quick action can help save lives when every second counts.

Why National Safety Month Matters

Accidents and injuries can happen unexpectedly, but many are preventable through education, awareness, and preparation. National Safety Month provides an opportunity to revisit safety practices, identify potential risks, and strengthen habits that contribute to a safer environment for everyone.

For healthcare professionals, safety awareness is especially important. Whether providing care in a healthcare setting or serving as a resource within their communities, healthcare workers play an important role in promoting health, preparedness, and emergency response.

A Time to Learn and Reflect

National Safety Month is more than a campaign. It is an opportunity to build awareness, encourage preparedness, and recognize the actions that help protect lives every day.

As we observe National Safety Month and CPR and AED Awareness Week, we encourage everyone to take a moment to learn, refresh important skills, and continue fostering a culture of safety both at work and at home.

When it comes to safety, knowledge and preparation can make all the difference.
