MedPro Global Giving Kicks Off Education Campaign

The MedPro International team recently visited the Philippines to kick off MedPro Global Giving 2024, MedPro International’s philanthropic effort assisting local nursing universities through training, resources, equipment, and more.

The team visited over five schools in person and met with the deans of nursing at ten schools and one hospital system. “Our goal was to come back with three to four solid partnerships, but we found that all the facilities we spoke with were eager to collaborate,” said MedPro International Executive Vice President, International Operations Patty Jeffrey, RN.

Recognizing healthcare sustainability as a pressing global concern, MedPro International is committed to fostering enduring relationships to address the unique needs of each facility and nurture the next generation of healthcare professionals.

MedPro Global Giving will prioritize equipping students and faculty with the necessary tools and knowledge to excel as healthcare clinicians. Many of the students will eventually be assisting patients in the United States. Approximately 80 to 90 percent of Philippine nursing students the team spoke to anticipate traveling for their careers. “Some may stay in the Philippines, but many see themselves pursuing a career in the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Japan, Germany, or the Netherlands,” said Jeffrey.

After deep and meaningful conversations about how MedPro Global Giving could assist, a common theme that emerged was the need for the latest up-to-date clinical education for nurses.  Global Giving will focus on implementing a series of lectures covering topics such as life as an RN in the US, NCLEX testing strategies, clinical equipment such as bed alarms for fall reduction, cardiac monitoring, legal and ethical issues affecting nursing practice, and more. Jeffrey would also eventually like to do a faculty exchange in which Filipino educators could familiarize themselves with U.S. practices and MedPro International educators could interact with students in the Philippines.

MedPro International is working to schedule and host Amelia Mendoza, DNM, MAN, RN, Nursing Services Director for Perpetual Help Medical Center – Las Linas, who will shadow her equivalent, observe nursing practice in acute care at a U.S. hospital, and see MedPro University’s educational programs as well as recruitment and legal processes for foreign-educated healthcare professionals.

“MedPro Global Giving is a win for schools, faculty, students, and healthcare in the Philippines, and it’s a win for us,” Jeffrey said. The team is already working on the logistics to provide medical technology laboratory equipment to schools in need.
